Waikato Times, 17 April 2010 PDF File HAMILTON PRESS, APRIL 1, 2009                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Connecting with Spirits                                                                                                                                         What do you call a group of mediums in the same place?  Dinsdale couple Michelle and Trevor Nelley are building a business around the nagging human desire to contact and gain guidance from the spirit world.                                         The pair, Michelle an administrator for Livestock Improvement, and Trevor a driver for Linfox,decided to take their interest in the spirit world seriously last year and established Spiritual Gardens Ltd - a business they describe as new age information, education and a provider of crystals, products and workshops.                                                                   They say one of the interesting aspects of the business has been bringing together spiritual mediums, clairvoyants, dousers, psychic healers and practitioners in psychometry (using an inanimate object to provide information about and understanding of another person).                                                                                                                                                  "They come to us,"  Trevor said.                                                                                                                                  Michelle works as a healer, specialising in absent healing, and allowing the spirits to talk through the crystals, while Trevor reads cards - primarily Tarot, but also the Oracle.                                                                                                           "Tarot reading is my forte.  I also do some psychic work and psychometry.  I'm open enough to whatever the spirits send through.                                                                                                                                                                  Trevor says he has known since he was a child that he had a special relationship with the spirit world.  "In the beginning I'd wondered what the hell was going on.  I'd say to people I didn't do a certain sort of readings, but very quickly I'd get the message back form the spirits that I do.  For 40-plus years I've been this way.  The spiritual world works in so many different ways.  Sometimes it's a bit scary and sometimes a bit exciting."                                                    While they say there is sometimes tension with religious groups, people are generally more accepting these days of the talents held by some people in making contact with the spirit world, which in the past had led to persecution.                    This year is Spiritual Gardens' first full year of one-day Natural Earth and Holistic Fairs which have so far taken in Waihi in January, and head for Rotoura, Ohope, Hamilton, Huntly and Kumeu, among other places.
